The vehicles are all approved by the DEFRA Welfare in Transport, DVLA and APHA approved ambulance and qualify for both long and short journeys.All our operators are RCVS accredited veterinary nurses and vets, or pet first aid and pet handling trained persons. Their skills include handling and administering medications.The vehicles carry pet first aid equipment, pet carriers, hygiene and cleaning solutions, leads, muzzles, operator safety kit, and extras such as spare vet beds, towels, blankets etc.

What to do in an Emergency

In any situation where you think your animal needs to be seen, it is always best to phone us first on 01622 291510 for advice and so that we can be prepared for your arrival or if necessary to arrange a call out. You should always consult your vet before administering any treatments and withhold food and water if your pet should require an anaesthetic.

Breathing difficulties

Laboured or rapid breathing, choking, or gasping.

Collapse or unconsciousness

Your pet has lost consciousness or is unable to stand or walk.

Severe bleeding

Bleeding that doesn't stop after applying pressure or blood from the eyes, ears, mouth, nose, or rectum.

Seizures

Uncontrolled shaking, convulsions, or fitting.

Trauma

Broken bone, Road Traffic Accident, Any significant injury, redness or swelling of the eye.

Suspected poisoning

Ingestion of toxic substances

Bloated or hard abdomen

Especially in large dogs, this could be a sign of a life-threatening condition gastric dilation and volvulus (GDV).

Severe vomiting or diarrhoea

Especially if it contains blood or is happening repeatedly, leading to lethargy.

Inability to urinate or defecate

This is particularly critical for male cats who may be straining to urinate.

Difficulty giving birth

If a pregnant animal is straining for more than 20 minutes without delivering a puppy or kitten, or there is a visible, stuck foetus.

Severe pain

If your pet is in obvious pain, crying out, or showing a sudden behavioural change like aggression.

Flystrike

In rabbits, if you notice a fly egg or larva on them.
